Mayor Anthony Smith called the regular Council Meeting of May 13, 2019 to order at 7:30 P.M.  Everyone joined in the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

ROLL CALL:

Council Members Julie Zehe, Traci Fallow, Allen Werth, John Ruymann answered roll call. Full Quorum.

 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES:

A motion was made by Councilperson Ruymann with a second by Councilperson Werth to accept the regular minutes of April 08, 2019.  Motion carried.

 

PUBLIC HEARING: None


CITIZENS COMMENTS:

Citizens- voiced concern about Dollar General moving in across from Harry’s Grocery.  Mellissa Holloway, Nanette Mihalik, Kirsty Kreigsman, Harry Chung, and Mark Wolfe spoke to council about Dollar General having a negative impact on Harry’s. They asked the council to not allow the Dollar General to come into town.

Lawrence Trowbrige- Spoke to council about the dangers of using glyphosate around town and the dangers it has on wildlife.

Sabra Noyes- Asked council to proclaim the month of June Orca awareness month

ATTORNEY’S REPORT:  None

 

POLICE REPORT:  None

 

WATER/STREET REPORT:

Public Works Director, Richard Armstrong submitted a written report on the projects and work being done around the city in the Water, Streets, Cemetery and Parks departments. Also informed the council that the city shop was broken into and a few things were stolen.

 

STAFF REPORT:

Don Terry- dogs running around town

Zoning Discussion- Short discussion about the city zoning

 

OLD BUSINESS:

Appointment of Council Position #3-   Attorney Memo, Daniel Martin Letter included in packets. A Motion was made by Councilperson Werth with a second from Councilperson Ruymann to appoint Angelo Cilluffo to council position #3. 3 vote yes (Councilpersons Ruymann, Werth, and Fallow) 1 vote no (Councilperson Zehe). Motion Carried.

CORRESPONDENCE:

John Deere Backhoe Bids- A Motion was made by Councilperson Werth with a second by Councilperson Zehe to let the backhoe go to the highest bidder. Motion Carried.

Two Variance Applications- applications received, city will proceed with hearing


NEW BUSINESS:

CLERK’S REPORT: 

Clerk-Treasurer, Amy Durga, submitted:  Checks #19662-19676 dated 04/22/2019, in the amount of $44,742.09.  Checks #19677-19696 dated 05/09/2019, in the amount of $17,648.61. 

Payroll Checks #12815-12820 and EFT claims dated April 2019 in the amount of $19,287.84. 

Motion was made by Councilperson Fallow and seconded by Councilperson Zehe to accept the Clerk’s Report as presented for payment of the bills.  Motion carried.

A motion was made by Councilperson Ruymann with a second from Councilperson Zehe to cancel he workshop for Tuesday May 28, 2019. Motion Carried

 

COUNCIL COMMENTS: 

John Ruymann- Congrats to Angelo and reminder to everyone to sign up for elections

Julie Zehe- Sends condolences to the Eichelberger family
